Orangina & Football
Posted on Jun 24, 2010
Compared to the last two days, today was relatively calm; I got to work as usual, albeit more tired than usual since I was out late last night. I'm disappointed to write that I had a bit of misfortune today; during lunch I was peeling an orange when I accidentally knocked a bottle of my Orangina on my laptop's keyboard. Since I haven’t gotten my work PC yet, I’ve been bringing my personal netbook to work. Now it seems like I will really need that work computer as my key are sticky, and my “s”, “w”, “delete”, “shift” and “=” sign don’t work. This is especially annoying as I had reports to write concerning Microsoft and Windows 7, which incidentally meant I had to use the virtual keyboard A LOT -____- If anyone knows of a good computer repair store in Paris please let me know as Yelp is not very helpful. For now, I hope to find a toolkit and disassemble and clean my keyboard.
On the bright side I got my next batch of assignments. While I can’t say much, I will say I get to be a mystery shopper and travel around Paris unsupervised practicing French for a couple days and I will also get to do some Facebook work (so plan on seeing me on Facebook this week from (12 AM – 10 AM ish U.S. time, 9 – 7 PM Paris). AIM and unsurprisingly Google Chrome does not work at Microsoft HQ so I am forced to use Gchat/FBchat until I find a better alternative.
The other bright spot in my day was that I got to watch the French football (soccer) match between South Africa. Now Microsoft is a pretty big place and while I don’t claim to have traversed all of it, I feel that I know at least my floor and the lobby pretty well. Oh how wrong I was lol. I found out today that Microsoft had its own auditorium in their lobby! How big is this “auditorium”? Well, enough to fit 1500 people!!! :O Once I realized that I was going to watch the match in a theater – instead of on one of the many 50 inch screen LCDs located in the building - you can imagine I was happily surprised. Throughout the match, the French were very loud and well, French. Even though they did lose, I have to admit, the French can be quite boisterous even when it became obvious that France was fated to lose; just imagine a couple hundred Frenchmen & women + drinks + popcorn + air-horns!
Anyways that was my day. I hope you enjoyed my picture of the theater and this post because this will most likely be the last one until I find a replacement laptop or get this one fixed. If I do decide to write more, don’t expect me to write anything too detailed of a blog post because typing on sticky keys and a virtual keypad can get annoying and tiring very quickly. It’s now 12 am, so I'm going to try to find a screwdriver and get some sleep.
Bonne nuit mes amis!
