Halfway Point
I am now halfway done with my internship in Berlin, times like these are always a good reason to stop, think and reflect on the matter at hand.
My internship with Tracks and Fields has been going good, and I'm truelly feeling myself getting into the flow of things. This is my first full-time work experience, and I've come to enjoy and appreciate the daily tasks and rhythm. I've always been bothered by the fact that being a student is a 24/7 responsibility, because although I enjoy my studies I have many interests that are outside the classroom, and during the school year I always struggle to find the time for my hobbies amidst the time I have to spend on school work. The advantage of a full-time job that I have discovered during this internship experience is that my duties and obligations only last within my work hours, so I am able to enjoy my other hobbies after work without worrying about my responsibilities in the workplace.
Working in a startup company has also left an impression on me, and I'm sure I will look to stay within startup companies in all my future employment. Not all startups are the same, but I'm sure many are as open and relaxed as the one I work at. Having had conversations with friends who have worked in big corporations, they always bring up the strict level of order within the daily operations of the corporations and how it gets in the way of them having a normal working day experience. I want to avoid that and want to be able to treat my workplace as a second home.
On another note, this past weekend we had gone to Prague. Prague is well known for its beauty and during summer time (especially) it is a hot tourist attraction for its cobble stone streets, art, architecture and history, all for relatively inexpensive prices. It is a gorgeous city and an interesting alternative to Berlin.
