Work
So it's about time I talked about what I spent majority of my time in Berlin doing: the internship.
I work at Tracks and Fields (tracksandfields.com), a start-up company providing a web-site for collaboration between producers and musicians from throughout the world, connected by the world wide web. I work as a web developer, helping out with the actual website and the technical side of things. There is another Intrax intern that works with me at Tracks and Fields, she works for the marketing squad, helping get actual users for the website that the web team and I are building. The company consists of about 10-15 employees about 5 of which are interns or former interns for the company. I don't know the exact numbers, partially because it's a very open environment, there are no hierarchies and every day it's a slightly different group of people depending on who comes and who doesn't on that specific day, so I never bothered counting.
I really enjoy working at Tracks and Fields. I enjoy working on web-related projects and the lack of hierarchies and the level openness in the company and between the employees makes every day a good experience, certainly better then the typical cubicle environment that every computer scientist is too familiar with in the States. The fact that it's a start-up also makes things more interesting because there are no strict structures or guidelines, and even as an intern it feels like my voice is heard and respected, and good ideas or suggestions are considered. Personally I feel that working in a startup like this is the best of both worlds (comparing working at home vs. at a corporation) because it has a level of comfort similar to working from home, but for a web developer it doesn't carry the pressures of running your own business and gives the opportunity to just focus on what I do best, since there are other people in the company working on the business and marketing side of things.
Note: We had recently moved to a new, bigger office, I will try to include pictures of the new office in a future post.
