Fun Fun Fun!

Posted on Jul 30, 2010

I think it goes without saying that I´ll miss Madrid. The city is so full of life, colors, plants in iron ledges, guitar players in plazas, summertime sunshine, friendly madrileƱos, and much more. During my time here, I think I´ve found a nice balance of both traveling and staying in the city. I equally enjoy weekends wondering around the city as I do renting a car camping up in the north in Galicia or visiting friends in Basque Country. Spain may not be a huge country like the US, but there are a variety of different regions each with their own culture, cuisine, language, and people. I haven´t had the opportunity to travel to all of them but what I have seen has been incredible.

The cultures are all very distinctive, and all very different from that of the US. I´m no stranger to traveling abroad, but I´m continually fascinated by the differences I encounter in other countries. The pace, the salutations, the work atmosphere, the fashion, the family dynamic, the houses, the electrical outlets, the language. Yes, those can be very obvious of course. But having the opportunity to experience those details is unlike any other!

Here´s some a pictorial guide of some of my times here in Spain.

Watching a world cup game with a Spanish friend (R) and college from from USF who was traveling Europe (L):

Sitting (rather awkwardly) in one of my favorite plazas here in Madrid: Everynight there are people playing music, kicking around a soccer ball, drinking and chatting with friends, and enjoying the relief of the night time temperature drop:

Walking down the narrow streets of Madrid. I love wondering here. There are different neighborhoods each with their own feel. You can see all of the windows have iron work, the architecture is beautiful, and the cars barely have enough space to drive through.

With coworkeres celebrating Spain´s historical world cup victory!! (Note, only 3 of them are ACTUALLY Spanish!! The others are Mexican and Argentine. But we all celebrated as if we were natives of course).

My post digital camera life in la Isla Cies:

This is the beach that I camped at in Galicia (Isla Cies):

And this is me today. Sitting at my desk at work! I wish you all a happy weekend wherever you may be reading this from.

Sonrisas (smiles), TT
