Almost at the 2 week mark
I can already tell my time is going by very quickly here. This Friday will officially mark the quarter way point. I arrived almost 2 weeks ago, with little idea of what would be in store for me. My first week was spent getting lost, learning the metro system, and picking up on the Spanish vernacular. Wait, who am I kidding, I´m still doing that! The metro in Madrid is great. Supposedly the best in Europe and I believe it. Not only is it affordable (1 Euro each ride) but it is always on time and takes me wherever I need to go in the city in less than a half hour. I take two metros to get to work in the morning. This is what I see everytime I come up from the metro stop "Banco de España"

My home stop, Pueblo Nuevo, has 2 different lines that run through it which make the city that much more accessible. My house is considered a little outside of the city center but I really don´t mind for a few reasons. One being the great metro system. The other mainly being how awesome my apartment is... We have a huge terrace, a nice living room with a couch so comfortable I tend to fall asleep on it everytime I sit down, and my room is incredibly spacious with two huge windows looking out to the neighborhood. Speaking of which, the neighborhood seems great.- on the quieter side with families, but safe and really comfortable.
Madrid is beautiful. I´m constantly staring, admiring, looking up at the beautiful architecture.

This is Plaza de Salvador Dalí (he happens to be one of my favorite artists from Spain).
I haven´t mentioned the food and couldn´t continue this blog without doing so. Some typical dishes are Spanish tortilla- potatoes, eggs (sometimes with onions) almost like an omellete. DELICIOUS! Croquetas: are fried balls of doughy eggy butter goodness. I have nothing to relate them to but if you´re feeling adventurous Google search a recipe and have at it! Seafoods are also really common here: calamari, tuna, other types of fish. For me its great, for those in the group who don´t eat fish, not so much.
Tonight the United States plays in the World Cup against Algeria. Surely all the Americans in Madrid have to be getting excited. All the interns are meeting up at an English pub to watch the game. Vamos EEUU!!
Hasta la proxima....
