The thing that has surprised me most about work is the attitude in the office. Although I have heard that Spaniards are generally much more laid-back about work than Americans, describing the work environment as such does not give it justice. It is true that my co-workers have a much more relaxed work style, yet they are still productive and diligent in getting things done. Desigual truly does combine fun and profit, true to its office motto.
The night before my first day of work, my main concern had nothing to do with my actual job, but rather entailed what to wear to work. Anyone who has worked in teh fashion industry understands exactly what I am referring to, as first impressions based on choice of clothing often precede job qualifications in this field.
So first of all, I would like to apologize to all of my readers for posting last week's blog almost a week late! Don't worry, like most people, I have an excuse. I prefer to see it more as a reason than an excuse, but here goes it : last week, I was quite busy touring around Shanghai! I won't report too much on Shanghai, but I will tell you that it is an amazing city and I absolutely love it there. As you could expect it is a really unique place, that is home to a really cool mix of Chinese and foreign culture.
I can feel the days slipping away into the heat, and I'm not really keeping track anymore. This internship experience is not meant to be calculated one day at a time. Rather, it is like a breath, something absorbed yet simultaneously escapes from you for the time being. But Tokyo's atmosphere has definitely sunken into my skin, and like a good soak in the onsen, it has definitely been good for me. It's hard to write this knowing that I'll begin to pack my bags in my little cubby hole of a guest house within the next week or so.
It's been a while since I've posted and a lot has happened; so be prepared for a long post.
This weekend was my first weekend since I've been here that I've been in Paris for both Saturday and Sunday! So I made sure to spend some quality time exploring the city.
On the weekend we took a trip to Potsdam as a group. Potsdam is a city about 40 minutes south of Berlin by train. Historically it was a residence of the Prussian royal family, and is popular amongst tourists today for its parks and palaces.
Berlin is well known for its nightlife and club scene, and is easily considered one of the top places in Europe for lovers of the night. Techo and electrical music is what's up, and many world famous club, such as Tresor and Berghain can be found in the city. Though Berlin is well know for its diversity, and the same can be said for its clubs and music. There is something to satisfy anyone's tastes, styles and moods, and all at a relatively cheap price.
So far my time in Madrid has consisted mainly of work. That is to say, I spend more than 40 hours a week here at Lola Madrid and the rest spending time with coworkers or the other interns. During my time at Lola, I´ve had the opportunity to dabble in different departments within the agency.
With less than 3 weeks left of my time in London, my entries on my actually internship have been kind of lacking. I have a tendency to want to write about London the city, rather than the whole reason I came on this program... the internship! So to recap, I'm working at a digital marketing agency called Head London. They're this really cool agency that basically helps other companies revamp their websites to be more user friendly or just look nicer in general. They've won a whole host of awards, so being able to intern there was definitely an intimidatingly exciting opportunity.
