Last Week

Posted on Aug 05, 2010

The final week has now reached us.  This was a truly good experience, all thanks to the people in our group.  We all got along very well from the first day, and it stuck through all 8 weeks.  It is unfortunate that we must soon part, but it had to come at some point, and looking back on our time here, I can honestly say that we made the best of it, and thus have nothing to regret, which is good for us in the future, to know that we can look back on this and only see the positive without having thoughts of how things might have gone otherwise.  So first and foremost I wan

Potsdam

Posted on Jul 23, 2010

On the weekend we took a trip to Potsdam as a group.  Potsdam is a city about 40 minutes south of Berlin by train.  Historically it was a residence of the Prussian royal family, and is popular amongst tourists today for its parks and palaces.

Nightlife

Posted on Jul 23, 2010

Berlin is well known for its nightlife and club scene, and is easily considered one of the top places in Europe for lovers of the night.  Techo and electrical music is what's up, and many world famous club, such as Tresor and Berghain can be found in the city.  Though Berlin is well know for its diversity, and the same can be said for its clubs and music.  There is something to satisfy anyone's tastes, styles and moods, and all at a relatively cheap price.

New experiences, realisations.

Posted on Jun 28, 2010

The past weekend we had gone to Spreewald as a group.  Spreewald is nature reserve, unique for the large amounts of channels/creeks that run all across the region.  It is located 100km south east of Berlin, about an hour's train ride.  We had gone primarily to go kayaking in the the creeks of Spreewald, which was a very unique and relaxing experience, and which I look forward to repeating again someday.  Half way through the trip we had stopped to have a traditional meal, which included the region's famous pickles (gurken).  The region is traditionally inhabited by

Getting familiar with the city, the people.

Posted on Jun 17, 2010

I have now been in Berlin for almost a week.  The city is certainly beautiful, fun, and interesting.  I have been impressed with it, but despite its differences I have not experienced any "culture shock", since it seems that despite the alternative flow of society, everything that goes on here has its natural order and reasons for being there and taking place.  I would best describe the city as an odd mix between Moscow and San Francisco.  It reminds me of Moscow for its city structure.  It has alot of "urban" looking buildings, with various &quo

On the eve of the journey...

Posted on Jun 11, 2010

As I sit in my room, now hours from departure, I laugh again at how life seems to endlessly play jokes with us.  We often strive to plan things out to the smallest details, so as to be most prepared for whatever may come along.  But regardless of what we may hope for and envision, the card that we are dealt is often quite opposite of the expected, leaving us bare in front of the given circumstances, just as if we had never spent time preparing against this very uncertainty.
