Language Requirements

The language level section of each job description refers to the local language ability needed to successfully complete the tasks asked of interns in the work place. Some benchmarkers that may help you self-assess the appropriate level for you are as follows:

1 = Elementary, or survival language. A participant at this level could order food, ask for directions, and greet people in the office, but would complete all work, emails with coworkers, and meetings in English. Typically, this participant has 1 year or less of local language study, and has never lived or traveled in the host-country. They can communicate only the basics of needs.

3 = Professional working proficiency.  A person at this level might have a discernible accent but has a good control of grammar, a general vocabulary which is broad enough where they do not need to grope for a word, and a conversation speed which allows for participation in most professional or social topics. Work can be completed in the native or host language with some assistance or proofing help from a native speaker.

5 = Fluent, or native speaker This participant can read, write, and speak in a competent manner on a number of subjects, and can comfortably carry a complicated conversation with a native speaker. Typically, all work duties would be carried out in the local language, and the participant would have very few grammatical errors in emails and reports. This person typically has some in-country travel or study experience, or has 5+ years of continuous language study.

Please note all applicants are expected to be fluent in English, despite their level of local language ability. During the matching process, your country manager will assess your level.
