Excursions - Japan
Kamakura is a small city located in Kanagawa Prefecture, less than one hour south of Tokyo. The quiet town was the political capital of Japan during the Kamakura shogunate, from 1185 to 1333. Sometimes called the "Kyoto of Eastern Japan", Kamakura offers numerous temples, shrines and other historical monuments.
The trip to Kamakura may include visits to:
- Tsuruoka Hachimangu, Kamakura’s most important Shinto shrine originally founded in 1063
- Great Budda, a large bronze Budda Statue with a height of 13.35 meters in Kotokuin Temple
- Zeniarai Benten Shrine, where visitors wash their money (zeniarai means “coin washing”)
Intrax arranges welcome and going away dinners for the group at popular Japanese restaurants. Japanese dishes typically include rice or noodles and ozaku – dishes made from meat, fish or tofu. Whether you like your ozaku grilled, fried, or sashimi style, these dinners are a great way to get to know your fellow interns!
