Social Media and Marketing Intern

Internship Description: 

ONG Derechos Digitales was founded in January 2005. Among its most important objectives is protection and promotion of fundamental rights on the Internet (with a focus on privacy and copyright) by strengthening a freer culture and supported by a balanced copyright that allows a major access to knowledge for all citizens in the digital environment.

Skill & Experience Required: 

Derechos is looking for an independent, proactive intern, with strong marketing/design/social media skills, to do the following:

  • Conduct research and track websites and campaigns using Google analytics, Twitter, YouTube and Facebook
  • Suggest tracking and data gathering methods for a better digital presence in both national and international contexts
  • Gather data on grants and fundable projects across the world to help profile NGO Derechos Digitales and apply for grants

Derechos is a small organization and interns can take more responsibilities depending on the progress of the other work.

Sample Projects: 

The organization has conducted several projects related to technology, citizens’ rights and access to culture, which have been crystallized through various media to facilitate their sustainability and access. Some of these initiatives include:
 

  • Creative Commons Chile: National subsidiary of Creative Commons, non-profit organization based in San Francisco, USA
  • Access to knowledge: Public Communication Channel Project “Copyright and Human Rights. Monitoring, Research and Strengthening Civil Society”
  • Noa Noa 2.0 netlabels: Musical Netlabels Festival website
  • Hipatia: Publication of technology and free culture with digital and paper format
  • Legal guide for Bloggers: Digital publication that answers legal questions every blogger in Chile
  • Free culture Book: Spanish translation of the foundational book of free culture and Creative Commons licenses, written by Lawrence Lessig
  • Access to Knowledge Seminar: Initiative which brought together civil society to discuss issues around copyright and access to culture
     
Benefits for Intern: 
  • The intern will perform tasks and will be in charge of the projects mentioned above, with supervision from the team. No coffee making, no photocopies, no routine work!
  • Derechos is a small and flexible organization, and the intern will have contact with all the members of it, interacting and learning from them, which are lawyers, journalists, sociologists and designers, all of them eager to share with new people.
  • NGO Derechos Digitales has a strong record in defending people fundamental rights. The intern will have direct access and knowledge of their daily work, and will learn about digital rights topics, from a non-profit fundamental rights stand.
  • The office is located in the center of Santiago, Chile, near from the subway, and with flexible schedules

  • The intern will help track and obtain data, including normal web metrics and social networks statistics, to orient the company's campaigns and design viral products to Chilean internet users
  • The company will benefit from a Native English speaking intern to design and position the NGO in a global level, starting from its website, and to design and make projects with international funds.
